Home Finale Begins Pivotal Final Week

With Two Matches Remaining, Flames Control Homefield Fate

10/28/2022 2:37:00 PM

The final home game of the regular season is Saturday night, and it will be an important one for UIC if they wish to play on Flames Field again in the postseason.

With just one game remaining after the Flames take on Evansville on Saturday, the team still controls its fate for the first round of the Missouri Valley tournament.  Wins in both remaining games would guarantee the Flames a top-four finish, and the right to host their first Valley tournament match.

The good news for UIC is that they are getting hot at the right time.  They exploded for six goals on Sunday at Bradley, all of which came in the final 30 minutes.  The barrage came on 40 total shots, fifth most by any team in the NCAA all year.  Josh Torres had a brace to move into second place in the Valley in goals and points.  Andres Moreno had a goal and an assist.

Evansville brings some momentum of their own to Chicago, having drawn with Indiana on Tuesday and gone undefeated in their last three outings.  Nacho Diaz has been a huge factor in their success with nine goals and two assists in his freshman campaign.  Alex Vidizzoni has allowed just three-quarters of a goal per game and has saved over 82% of the shots on his frame.

This will be the first meeting between the programs.  Prior to the match, UIC will honor its senior class, including Roberto Alonzo, Ricardo Avalos, Manny Cerritos, Christian Crespo, Eduardo Garcia, Eduardo Huerta, Pau Mateo, Andres Moreno, Aaron Nguyen, and Andres Vasquez.

The match will start at 7 pm.  There will be no live stream.
