HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The UIC Flames (2-18, 1-14 Horizon) fell in a tight-knit battle to the Northern Kentucky Norse (17-5, 11-4 Horizon), 67-57. The Flames put up a strong effort against the Norse but were unable to pull off the victory.
Justice Gee tied her career-high in scoring with 16 points in tonight's game.
The Flames started strong in the first quarter, putting up an impressive 17 points against the Norse. Gee scored nine of her 16 points in five minutes of play. The Flames outscored the Norse 17-15, heading into the second quarter with a lead.
UIC's hot shooting subsided in the second and third quarters of play. The Flames scored ten points in the second quarter, shooting 28% from the field, while the Norse took the momentum and the lead heading into halftime up 33-27.Â
The Flames' offense struggled most in the third quarter of play. UIC went 1-11 from the field on the quarter. The bulk of their points came at the foul line, with NKU fouling the Flames eight times. UIC went 7-8 at the free-throw line.
Kristian Young was electric at the line shooting 10-12 from the charity stripe in the game.Â
The Flames mounted a comeback after a cold-shooting third quarter, as UIC went on to score 21 points on the quarter.
Keona Schenck came up massive in the final quarter, nailing two 3-pointers and swinging the momentum in favor of the Flames. UIC gave the Norse a tough fight but was not able to pull off the victory.
The Flames will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 12, in Dayton, Ohio. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
