Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Flames Fall Shy Of Road Win Vs. Wright State

UIC's Improbable Comeback Falls Short To The Raiders On Sunday

DAYTON, Ohio - UIC women's basketball (2-19, 1-15 Horizon) fell in a Saturday afternoon game to the Wright State Raiders (3-19, 2-15 Horizon), 69-63. The Flames' first-half woes spoiled their improbable near comeback in the final two minutes of play. Three separate Flames scored in double-digits against the Raiders, with Jaida McCloud finishing with 17 points, Justice Gee finishing with 15 points, and Kristian Young finishing with 13 points. The Flames will be back in action next week, Feb. 14, to play a make-up game against Detroit Mercy.

The Flames struggled in the first half of play against the Raiders. UIC started the game with 11 turnovers in the first quarter of play. The turnovers allowed Wright State to get their offense rolling early, giving the Raiders a ten-point cushion heading into the second quarter.

The Flames were able to get their offense rolling in the second quarter of play, scoring 18 points as a team. With UIC's offense finding their stride, the Raiders pushed the Flames on defense. Wright State was able to score 20 points in the second quarter, taking advantage of open looks.

The Flames came out of the half with a new fire under their running on all cylinders. UIC scored 16 points on the quarter behind some impressive output from Gee and McCloud.

UIC still found themselves down heading into the final quarter. The Flames continued to put up a strong effort despite the deficit in the final quarter. Down eight points with two minutes left to play and multiple players in foul trouble, the Flames fate looked to be sealed. That was until Lindsey Rogers threw up a 3-pointer from the top of the key, nailing it and rejuvenating the bench. The Flames went down the length of the floor and forced an errant pass that was picked off by Keona Schenck. Schenck pushed the ball into the hands of Young, who nailed another 3-pointer. With all the momentum in the hands of the Flames, Wright State called a timeout. UIC was unable to pull off the victory, in the end, falling just short.

The Flames will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 14, hosting Detroit Mercy.
