Flames Face Pacific to End Homestand

UIC Looks for Fourth Straight Win

2/17/2022 1:15:00 PM

UIC's season-long four match homestand will come to a close Friday when the Flames host Pacific.  UIC is 3-0 on the XS Tennis courts so far, and 4-1 overall in dual match play.  Pacific enters with a 3-0 dual match record.

Horizon League Singles Player of the Week Agnes Gustafsson won at #1 singles in each of the team's last three matches.  Tamara Malazonia is also on a three-match winning streak, which includes the clinching win in each of the last two outings.

The Flames started the season strong on the doubles courts, but have lost the doubles point in their last two matches.  A fast start will be necessary against a Pacific squad that raced out to 4-0 wins in two of its three matches.

The Tigers are led by Klara Kosan, who plays at #1 in both singles and doubles.  Freshman Miaangela Ruja has cemented herself in the #2 singles slot and has a clinching win to her credit this year.  The Stockton, California-based Pacific team is making a rare journey to the Midwest.  They have played as far east as Oklahoma just once since 2005.

Friday's match will begin at 10:00 a.m.
