Flames Impressive Effort Falls Short Against The Panthers Of Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - UIC women's basketball (2-22, 1-18 Horizon) fell in a competitive game in Milwaukee against the Panthers (12-14, 11-8 Horizon), 65-57 on Saturday. The Flames put up a strong effort throughout the game, keeping the game close, but ultimately fell at the Klotsche Center. Jaida McCloud scored a game-high 22 points, shooting 50% from the field.

The Flames started strong against the Panthers in the early goings of the game. The Flames found their footing early, and after back-to-back 3 pointers from Keona Schenck and Lindsey Rogers, the Panthers were forced to take a timeout. UIC spread the ball well in the first quarter, with five different Flames scoring.

The second quarter showed more of the same from the Flames, with Ky Dempsey-Toney, Keona Schenck, and McCloud leading the way for UIC. Dempsey-Toney forced her way inside and drew contact, giving UIC the momentum. Milwaukee managed to maintain their lead heading into halftime, 34-29.

Coming out of halftime, UIC played well offensively, scoring 15 points on the quarter. Defensively, however, the Flames struggled to keep the Panthers from scoring. The Flames only managed one rebound on the quarter, allowing Milwaukee to score 19.

In the final quarter, McCloud put up an astounding effort on offense, scoring nine points tin the final quarter of play, but UIC was unable to take the lead as Milwaukee took the win, 65-57.

The Flames will be back in action at Credit Union 1 Arena on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 4:00 p.m.
