Moran Sets School Record on Final Day of #HLTF Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – UIC's Bailey Moran set the school record in the women's 400m Sunday as the Flames wrapped up competition at the 2022 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
"We had some great performances to finish off the championships," said head coach Ashley Lucas. "Multiple PRs around the board again. Biggest performances on the women's side today goes to Bailey Moran breaking the 400m school record to secure third place, Teresa Mejia doubling back in the 3k, setting another PR and grabbing fourth place and the women's 4x400team getting on the podium for third and just being a second off our school record."
 
Moran posted the bronze medal finish in the women's 400 with a record-setting time of 56.52, topping the previous school record of 56.94, set by Ariel Butzine in 2012. Moran was also the third leg of the women's 4x400 team that finished third overall. Lia Skoufos, Amya Hargrove, Moran and Olivia Dumas teamed up to post a time of 3:55.86.
 
Mejia ran a stellar race in the women's 3000m, finishing just off the podium in fourth place with a time of 10:08.35.
 
Cailyn Persinger also had a top-10 finish, placing sixth overall in the women's mile with a run of 5:09.69.
 
"On the men's side, the highlight was Max Rivera competing in his first conference championship and scoring in both the 60m and 200m. The 4x400 relay getting on the podium with a third-place finish was also great to see."
 
The men's 4x400 team of Trevor Tousana, Jesse Casas, Will Stout and Sacrad Michelin teamed up to post a time of 3:18.41 to claim third place.
 
Max Rivera had a pair of top-10 performances in the 60 and 200-meter races. In the 200m competition, Rivera finished sixth with a time of 22.14 while placing eighth in the 60m (7.11).
 
Dathan Maton also recorded a top-10 finish in the men's mile with a time of 4:15.32. The UIC tandem of Mark Lemke (8:39.15) and Carlos Cabrera (8:42.05) finished in 10th and 12th place, respectively, in the men's 3000m.
 
Sunday's competition wrapped up the indoor portion of UIC's schedule. The Flames will make their outdoor debut March 24 at the Raleigh Relays.
