CHICAGO -- After finishing the regular season with three consecutive victories, the UIC men's basketball team earned the eighth seed in the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship and it will travel to No. 9 Milwaukee for an opening-round showdown on Tuesday, March at 7 p.m.
While the Flames (13-15, 9-10 Horizon League) are the higher seed, and would traditionally host in that spot, UIC waived its right to host all winter and spring Horizon League Championship events in advance of the institution's transition to the Missouri Valley Conference in July.
Tuesday's tilt marks the second matchup against the Panthers (10-21, 8-14 Horizon League) in four days. The two teams faced off in the regular season finale on Saturday at Credit Union 1 Arena with the
Flames securing a 13-point victory on Senior Night. UIC also triumphed in the first meeting this season at UWM Panther Arena in January,
winning 81-77 on January 13. It was the first regular season series sweep of Milwaukee since the 2017-18 campaign.
Tickets for the third meeting of the campaign between the Flames and Panthers are available now through Ticketmaster. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN+.
The winner of Tuesday's first-round game will advance to the quarterfinal round at campus sites on Thursday, March. No. 1 Cleveland State, No. 2 Purdue Fort Wayne, No. 3 Northern Kentucky and No. 4 Wright State will serve as hosts for those contests. The tournament continues with the semifinals and championship on March 7-8 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.
