CHICAGO – Carlos Cabrera's etched his name in the record books once again Friday, as the Flames split up the squads for a pair of meets in Michigan and Indiana.

Cabrera, competing in the men's 5000m race at Notre Dame's Meyo Invite, broke the school record in the event with a sixth-place finish with a final time of 14:22.14. The mark broke the previous school record of 14:30.00, set by Fernando Reyes in 1981.

Mark Lemke also competed in the event, placing 21st overall with a time of 14:54.37. In the women's 5000m, UIC's Teresa Mejia finished in 17th place with a final time of 17:45.06. Olivia Dumas, the final Flame to compete at the Meyo Invite, finished 25th overall in the women's 200m (25.62).

"We had a great day at Notre Dame," said head coach Ashley Lucas. "Three for three in 5K PRs, with Teresa (Mejia) and Mark (Lemke) getting themselves on our top 10 lists. Carlos breaking the school record is obviously huge and he is absolutely so deserving of it. Olivia is closing in on the 200m school record and gets hungrier each meet to get her name on top. I'm excited for the team to keep this momentum into tomorrow."

The remainder of the Flames in competition Friday were just north in Allendale, Michigan, for the Snowdown Showdown hosted by Grand Valley State.

UIC had a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's 60m dash, with Max Rivera finishing sixth (7.09) while Dalton Burk claimed ninth place (7.18). The Flames also recorded a pair of matching sixth and ninth-place finishes in the women's 400m. Amya Hargrove was the Flames' top finisher in the event with a time of 58.80 while Lia Skoufos followed in ninth place (1:00.29).

"We had a few athletes compete for the first time this indoor season with some outstanding performances," said assistant coach Paul Zavala who was with the Flames at GVSU. "Amya and Lia opened up and ran great 400s. We also had several team members break PRs today. Our coaching staff is looking forward to the continued progress of the team over the last few weeks of indoor season and can't wait to showcase all of our team's hard work."

Also during the meet, Sacrad Michelin crossed the line in 15th place in the men's 200m (22.80) and Cassie Ogburn claimed 20th position in the women's mile (5:32.09).

UIC will remain in South Bend for continued action at the Meyo Invite Saturday, with five Flames set to compete.
