Midweek Match Pits Flames Against Cougars

City Showdown Slated For Wednesday Morning

3/8/2022 12:40:00 PM

A crosstown rivalry will be renewed when UIC faces Chicago State Wednesday morning.

The match, a home contest for the Cougars in Homewood, will mark the sixth straight year that the teams have met.  UIC is on a six-match winning streak in the series dating back to 2011.  Agnes Gustafsson, Ana Jover, and Tamara Malazonia each had a singles win against the Cougars in last year's 6-1 UIC victory.

The trio were also singles winners in the Flames' last outing against Middle Tennessee State, helping the team to a 5-2 win that snapped a two-match losing streak.  Jover is on a seven-match winning streak on the singles courts and is undefeated in dual match play.

Chicago State split a pair of matches last weekend, defeating Horizon League foe IUPUI before falling to Northern Illinois.  Katarina Drazic and Katarina Dukic are tied for the team lead with seven singles wins apiece.  Cali Fuller has four wins in the #1 flight, the most for any player in a single slot.

The teams both competed at the Northwestern Invitational in October.  At that event, Dominika Hrabalova defeated Dukic in the singles draw, and she partnered with Nell Arendt to take down Dukic and Danina Hughes in doubles play.

Action will begin at 10 a.m. at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
