4/28/2022 1:41:00 PM

CHICAGO -- With only two weekends left in the regular season, UIC will hit the road for a final time as the Flames travel to Ohio for a three-game series against the Cleveland State Vikings. The teams will open the series on Friday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. CT, before wrapping it up with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 at noon CT.

The Flames (10-28, 7-12 Horizon League) have won two-of-three games each of the last two times they have played away from Chicago in Horizon League play. During both weekends, UIC dropped a low-scoring opening game before roaring back to sweep a doubleheader the following day. The Flames won twice at Northern Kentucky on April 2 and accomplished the same feat again at Detroit Mercy last Saturday. Maica Ingles has been a vital contributor in those four victories, batting .588 (10-for-17) with eight runs scored. The reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, Dee Dee Caskey, and infielder Isabelle Garcia also batted .500 in those games for UIC with a combined six extra-base hits and nine RBI.

Two-way threat Carlee Jo Clark has also raised her level of play in those four games. As a hitter, she's posted an averaged of .556 and a slugging percentage of .667 with five RBI. In those same games in the circle, Clark is 2-0 in three appearances with nine strikeouts and only two walks in 13.0 innings pitched. The Norse and Titans hit .128 against the Carol Stream, Ill., native.

Cleveland State enters the weekend with 18 wins overall, including 14 in 20 chances against conference foes. The Vikings recently took two-of-three from League-leading Oakland at home on April 22-23 before splitting a doubleheader at Green Bay on Wednesday. CSU is batting .246 on the season as a team and .247 in conference games. The Vikings average 4.02 runs per game. In the circle, the staff boasts a 3.57 ERA and .260 batting average against. Earlier this week, Melissa Holzopfel was named the #HLSB Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. She went 3-0 with four appearances covering 23.2 innings. In that span, Holzopfel had a 0.76 ERA and 22 strikeouts. She has started 21 of CSU's 38 games and fanned 184 with 55 walks on the season.

There will be no broadcast available for the games this weekend, but live stats will be available.
