CHICAGO -- For the first time in the regular season since 2017, UIC will host DePaul for a non-conference game at Flames Field on Wednesday, April 6 at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as Zaelyn, a young girl affiliated with
Team Impact, will have an on-field signing ceremony about 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
The Flames (6-19, 3-7 Horizon League) are coming off back-to-back victories as part of a doubleheader sweep at Northern Kentucky on Saturday. UIC erupted for 19 runs in the two games thanks to three home runs by senior slugger
Tara McElligott and career days at the dish from several student-athletes including
Maica Ingles,
Isabelle Garcia and
Mary Jones. Ingles batted .667 in the three-game series with eight hits, four runs and three RBI.
Christina Toniolo was terrific in the circle as she fired off two complete games, while picking up her first career save. The junior posted a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched and limited the Norse to a batting average of .196 with only one extra-base hit.
DePaul (13-18, 3-6 BIG EAST) is coming off its own series victory over the weekend by taking two-of-three from their conference's preseason favorite, Villanova. The two victories were by a combined score of 16-2.
Anna Wohlers was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday as she led the Blue Demons in nearly all offensive categories. The Davenport, Iowa, native batted .600 with a team-high six hits and four RBI.
While UIC has fallen short in the last four regular-season meetings between the two squads, the Flames were victorious in the last meeting on Flames Field on April 26, 2017. Elaine Heflin and Allie Trudeau combined to allow only one hit, while current UIC assistant coach
Kayla Wedl drove in Savannah Soppet for the game's only run.
Admission to Flames Field is free for fans in 2022 and Wednesday's game will also be available on
ESPN+.
