CHICAGO -- UIC will seek to continue its winning ways in conference play when it hosts the Green Bay Phoenix for a three-game series at Flames Field this weekend. Originally scheduled for a single game Friday and doubleheader on Saturday, the teams will play the twin bill on Saturday as scheduled beginning at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the set on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Flames (6-20, 3-7 Horizon League) are coming off their first series victory of the season against a conference foe. After dropping the opener at Northern Kentucky on April 1, UIC stormed back and outscored the Norse 19-5 to sweep both ends of a doubleheader on April 2.
Tara McElligott homered three times in those two games, while
Maica Ingles batted .667 with eight hits, four runs, three RBI and 10 total bases on the weekend. In the circle,
Christina Toniolo threw two complete games in the opener and finale, while picking up her first career save in between. The junior posted a 1.84 ERAÂ and limited NKU to a .196 batting average with one extra-base hit in 14.2 innings pitched.
Green Bay (14-15, 6-3 Horizon League) comes to town having won two-of-three last weekend at Detroit Mercy. The Phoenix won the first two contests with ease by scores of 9-1 (5) and 10-0 (6) before being blanked in the finale, 4-0.
The Phoenix rank second in the conference in batting average (.267) and third in ERA (3.83). Individually,
Alicia Peters leads the HL in on-base (.527) and slugging percentage (.931), and ranks second in batting average (.397).
Tiffany Giese is tied for third in the Horizon League with a .395 batting average and ranks tied for second with 21 runs scored.
Abigail Gawlinski owns the conference's top ERA (2.38) in 53.0 innings pitched.
UIC leads the all-time series, 65-18, however Green Bay has won three of the last four contests. Prior to that, the Flames won nine in a row against the Phoenix from April 18, 2017 until April 24, 2019.
Admission to Flames Field is free for fans in 2022. On Saturday, the program will celebrate Alumnae throughout the day and hold a special ceremony between games of the doubleheader to distribute 2021 Horizon League championship rings.
Live stats will be available for all three games between the Flames and Green Bay. Saturday's games will also be available on ESPN+.
