ROCHESTER, Mich. – The UIC track & field team opened up competition at the 2022 Horizon League Track & Field Championships under the lights Friday (May 6). The Flames competed in a pair of events, the preliminaries of the 1500m and the finals of the 10k.
"Tonight was a decent night, highlighted by putting our first points on the board with Carlos getting fourth and Mark coming in with a clutch seventh place," said head coach
Ashley Lucas. "Dathan and Teresa set the tone both by advancing to the 1500m final on Sunday."

In the men's 10k,
Carlos Cabrera finished fourth overall with a time of 3:36.86 to earn five points on the scoreboard for the Flames.
Mark Lemke also earned points for UIC in the event, crossing the line in 30:58.97 to finish seventh overall for a pair of points.

In the women's race, Rosie Campbell-Watt was the Flames' lone competitor, posting a time of 40:20.94 to finish 12th

The preliminaries of the men's and women's 1500m events opened up the track Friday, with a pair of Flames moving on to the finals. Teresea Mejia automatically qualified for the finals in the women's event, finishing third in her heat with a time of 4:58.59. Daniela just missed a spot in qualifying for the top-12, finishing 14
th overall with a time of 4:57.08.

 In the men's event,
Dathan Maton punched his ticket into the top-12 with a time of 4:04.26 to finish 11
th overall.
Nathan Lim was also in action in the event, finishing 16
th after crossing the line in 4:08.04.

Action at Oakland University will continue throughout the weekend, concluding Saturday afternoon.
