ROCHESTER, Mich. – Three Flames earned top-three finishes Sunday, May 8, as the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close. As a team, the men finished in seventh position (eight teams) with 34 points while the women finished eighth in the 11-team field (29 points).

Teresa Mejia, who qualified for Sunday's finals of the 1500m with her preliminary performance on Friday, was UIC's top finisher of the day as she finished runner-up in the event with a time of 4:38.15. After qualifying in ninth position, Mejia improved by 20 seconds in Sunday's race to earn the second-place finish.
Mejia and
Carlos Cabrera each earned earned fourth-place finishes in the 5000m events, with Mejia posting a time of 17:34.66 while Cabrera crossed the line in 14:47.49.

The Flames received a pair of stellar finishes in the men's and women's 400m finals as well.
Jesse Casas finished third overall in the event with a time of 47.95 while
Trevor Tousana claimed fifth place with a time of 48.80. In the women's race, Bailey Moran posted a time of 56.46 to finish third, improving upon her 57.35 qualifying time.

Also in action on Sunday,
Sacrad Michelin finished sixth in the men's 200m finals with a time of 22.25,
Will Stout claimed eighth in the 400m hurdles (58.19) and
Dathan Maton crossed the line in 3:58.92 in the men's 1500m to finish ninth overall.

The Flames will have one last shot to qualify for the NCAA West Regional preliminaries on May 14 when the team makes the quick trip to Naperville for the Carius/Gregory Invite.
