CHICAGO – UIC wrapped up the 2022 campaign by posting its third shutout of the season, a 5-0 victory over IUPUI.
Carlee Jo Clark went the distance in the circle and she scattered four hits and struck out five.
Alannah Cran had two hits, while
Dee Dee Caskey drove in two big runs for the Flames in the fifth inning.
The Flames escaped damage in the top of the third inning when IUPUI loaded the bases with one out. Clark got
Hailey Pop to go down on strikes before getting a ground ball to third base.
Maica Ingles made a diving stop, rose to her feet and fired across for the final out of the inning to leave the bases loaded.
The Flames found a way to dent the scoring column with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. UIC scored twice and the inning's first hit spun less than five feet in front of home plate.
Grace Fleming reached on an error before Cran dropped down a bunt and beat the throw to first. After a sacrifice from
Emma Crowley, IUPUI started
Madison Bryant lost a bit of control. Two wild pitches would allow Fleming and Cran to score, giving the Flames a 2-0 lead.
UIC would not stop there, however. A walk to
Isabelle Garcia, single by Ingles and hit-by-pitch against McElligott loaded the bases. Caksey then shot a double down the right-filed line that would clear the bases on the help of a throwing error by the Jaguars.
That was all the help Clark would need. She would go on to retire four consecutive IUPUI hitters and work around a one-out error in the top of the seventh to nail down the victory, her sixth of the season and fifth in Horizon League play.
