UIC turned on the offensive firepower in a 4-1 win over Central Michigan in the final exhibition match of the preseason.
Central Michigan scored first, putting the Flames in a 1-0 hole for the third straight match. Like in the previous two, UIC had plenty of opportunities in the attacking end, but for the first time in the preseason, they converted their shots into goals and pulled away from the visiting Chippewas.Â
Kaitlyn Montague scored twice, including late in the first half to equalize the score before the break.
Montague assisted on
Jackie Santibanez' eventual game-winning goal less than three minutes into the second half. She scored again herself in the 55
th minute.Â
Sophia Jaime capped the scoring with less than two minutes to play.
Sara Sanabria,
Lauren Keiser, and
Trish Georgiou all saw action in goal. Sanabria was the only one to make any saves, as UIC's defense kept CMU off the ball and out of the final third for large stretches of the match.
The Flames will begin the regular season Thursday at Louisville.
