UIC will play its first Missouri Valley Conference match, and will dedicate the new Flames Field, Sunday afternoon. Illinois State will be in town as the Flames' debut MVC opponent.
The match will start at 1 p.m., and immediately before kickoff, UIC dignitaries will conduct a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to officially open the new facility. The festivities will conclude a full weekend of grand opening ceremonies, including a presentation at 5:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the men's game against Drake.
The Flames will look to get back into the form that allowed them to dominate on the field and on the stat sheet in matches earlier this month. In consecutive outings against DePaul, Eastern Illinois, and Marquette, the Flames outshot their opponents by a combined 40-17, and 21-11 on goal. They also earned 12 corner kicks, and conceded only three.
Frankie Frericks scored her first goal as a Flame to help the team avoid a shutout against Eastern Kentucky in their last match on Sunday. She moved into a tie for the team lead in shots after taking a season high four against the Colonels.
Illinois State has righted the ship after opening the season with six straight losses. They enter play as winners of their last two, dispatching Lindenwood and Western Illinois by a combined 7-2. Allison Baker is their leader with three goals, while Hillary Griffin has distributed five assists. Primary goalkeeper Audrey Brown has a 2.00 goals-against average and a .711 save percentage.
The match can be seen on ESPN3.
