UIC measured up against three regional opponents in the Toledo Fall Invite, contested Friday and Saturday. Full lineups of singles and doubles were contested between the Flames and Toledo, DePaul, and Chicago over the two days.
Three Flames –
Agnes Gustafsson,
Tamara Malazonia, and
Natalia Nikolopoulou – won two of their three singles matches. Paula Rodriguez and
Cora-Lynn von Dungern joined NIkolopoulou in picking up their first singles wins as Flames.
Gustafsson and
Ana Jover teamed up for a doubles win, as did Nikolopoulou and von Dungern.
Shannon Tully shuffled her doubles pairings on day two, when Gustafsson and Malazonia, and Jover and Nikolopoulou, bested teams from the Maroons.
Throughout the invitational, the singles lineups were split into two groups. One through three singles competed in the Blue event, and four through six went to the Gold courts. Between Blue, Gold, and doubles, three points were available in each matchup. UIC won points against DePaul in Blue singles, Chicago in Gold singles, and against Chicago in doubles. Individually, the Flames combined to go 9-9 in singles play on the weekend.
The Flames will compete in the Missouri Valley Individual Championships the weekend of October 7.
