Women's Soccer Senior Day Set for Sunday

Flames Will Host Miami (Ohio) in Senior Day Match

9/3/2022 12:47:00 PM

Senior Day is coming to Flames Field early, as the UIC women's soccer program will honor its class of 2022 before the team's match against Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon.  Frankie Frericks, Kaitlyn Montague, Leah Senese, Jackie Santibanez, and Grace Haines, along with senior student manager Evette Tamayo, will be recognized for their contributions to the program.

The Flames will bring a two-match result streak to their only home match in a three-week span.  They registered a 1-1 draw with Marquette on Thursday, after drawing with Eastern Illinois prior to that.  Against the Golden Eagles, Megan Bowman scored for the Flames to move into sole possession of first place on the program's all-time goals scored list.

Bowman was dangerous throughout the match, putting three shots on goal to move into second place on the team.  Jelena Zbiljic, who co-leads the squad in shots, assisted.  Lauren Keiser played the full 90 minutes in goal, surrendering her first goal of the year, but still leads the Missouri Valley Conference in save percentage and goals-against average.

Miami is the third team in UIC's first five matches who the Flames are facing for the first time.  The RedHawks are 1-2-1 with a win over Loyola and losses to Wright State and Purdue.  Each of their matches has been a one-goal decision.  Izzie Vaccari has an .857 save percentage and a MAC Defensive Player of the Week award under her belt for a team that was picked in the middle of the pack in the MAC preseason poll.

Sunday's match will start at 1 p.m., with the senior ceremony slated for approximately 12:45.  Admission to Flames Field is free.  The Senior Day festivities were moved from their traditional late-season slot to accommodate the travel schedules of the seniors' families.
