EVANSVILLE, IND. – The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to action Saturday for a quad meet against Evansville, Missouri State, and Bellarmine. The women's team went 2-1, while the men had a record of 1-2 for the meet.
Individually,
Victoria Thor finished third overall in the 1650m freestyle.
Liam Davis was also third in the same event for the men.
Kalie Landrum,
Bree Moericke, and
Madison Helmick had top finishes in the women's 200m freestyle.
Lizzie Zeller came in third in the 100m back stroke, while Bella Drake and
Ashlee Weltyk followed behind at fifth and sixth.
Daniel Galinski and
Aidan Foley ranked third and fourth in the men's 100m back stroke.
Taira Juronis came in second for the 200m breast stroke. She also placed third for the 100m breast stroke.
Madison Helmick placed second for the Flames in the 500m freestyle. The 50m freestyle was a strong event for both the men and women, as
Poleena Kovalaske and
Jeffrey Wiedoff placed third for UIC.
UIC had a strong showing in the relays. The men's 200m medley team placed third overall, and the women came in fourth for the event. The men ranked third for the 200m freestyle as well, while the women placed second and third.
The Flames had another good day on the diving boards. On the 1-meter springboard,
Abigail Hellinga got first place, with a score of 242.45. Raised at 3 meters,
Ciara McCliment came out on top scoring 257.10, which is a career-best.
Kerry-Leigh Morrison,
Kathryn Kleczka, and
Gabby Richards also scored over 200.
Men's diving ranked high as well.
Cole Tremewan and
Hunter Trautmann placed first and second at 1 meter.
Cole Tremewan finished first in the 3-meter diving as well, while
Bruno Carrillo came in second.
UIC will host the University of Chicago in the Flames Natatorium Saturday, Jan. 20.
