CHICAGO – The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted the University of Chicago in the Flames Natatorium Friday.
UChicago came into the meet with a successful record. The Maroons previously beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 182-116 on the women's side, and 194-106 on the men's side.
The women's 200 medley relay team came out strong for the Flames with a first-place finish. The squad consisted of
Lizzie Zeller,
Taira Juronis,
Izabella Del Rosario,
Poleena Kovalaske. It's the team's season-best for a dual meet.
Taira Juronis came in first place for two other events, the 100 breast, and the 200 breast. All of those finishes are season-best dual meet times.
Daniel Galinski placed first in the same events, also recording season-best times.
The divers did well on the boards.
Cole Tremewan and
Bruno Carrillo finished first and second in both the 1 and 3-meter springboard competitions. Tremewan's performance also achieved NCAA Zone Qualification scores. Both Tremewan and Carrillo had season-best performances in the 3-meter dive. On the women's side,
Ciara McCliment was consistent on both boards finishing second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Gabby Richards also had season-best finishes for the second week in a row in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
The Maroons outscored the Flames 326-250.
It was senior night for seven members of the team:
Ashton Amerman,
Nidhi Chetan,
Abigail Hellinga,
Poleena Kovalaske,
Victoria Thor, Jeff Wiedoff, and
Lizzie Zeller.
"It was a great night celebrating our seniors! We had many personal best dual meet swims and had several solid wins against a very strong UChicago team," said Head Coach
Ashley Dell. "It was fun to allow the seniors to choose their own events and honor the fantastic careers that each of them have had. Thank you, seniors for all of your hard work and dedication to this program!"
The Flames will travel to Bloomington, Ill. on Jan. 27 to swim against Illinois Wesleyan.
