CHICAGO (Nov. 9, 2023) – Guard Carlos Harris has signed a national letter of intent to attend UIC and play basketball for the Flames, head coach Luke Yaklich announced Thursday. Harris, who will be a freshman for the 2024-25 season, is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard from Chicago who is entering his final year at Chicago Public League power Curie Metropolitan High School.

"Carlos is a dynamic guard that fits what we're about," Yaklich said. "He's a physical, on-ball defender, a really good leader, and a kid that just really loves basketball. He embraces the city, wanted to stay home and wanted to be a part of something special here at UIC, taking on the challenge of playing in the Missouri Valley (Conference). His work ethic and his love for hoop is second to none. We're really excited about Carlos and what he brings to the table, on and off the court."

Harris is a three-star athlete who is ranked as the No. 35 point guard in the country and the No. 13 player in the state of Illinois.

Last season, Harris averaged 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals per game for Curie, helping the Condors to a 20-11 record. He also played a pivotal role in Curie's landmark regular-season win over Class 3A state runner-up (and fellow Chicago Public League school) Simeon, burying a last-second floater in the lane for a two-point victory.

Harris also suited up last summer for the Meanstreets AAU program, helping that squad into the prestigious Peach Jam tournament. At the Peach Jam, he averaged 4.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game and finished with a team-high 19 assists.

The Flames will tip off the home portion of their 2023-24 season Friday with a 7:30 p.m. (CT) contest against Little Rock at Credit Union 1 Arena. Tickets for that game, and all UIC basketball games, can be purchased online through Ticketmaster or UICFlames.com/Tickets, contacting the UIC Athletics Ticket Office at (312) 413-UIC1 (8421), or visiting the Credit Union 1 Arena box office on game nights.
