CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball team (13-11, 5-8 MVC) completes its two-game homestand Sunday afternoon in a match-up against Drake (14-7, 9-4 MVC) at Credit Union 1 Arena.
MATCH-UP BREAKDOWN
- UIC wraps up its regular season series against Drake Sunday afternoon. This is the team's second game in a row against a team from the Hawkeye State; the Flames faced Northern Iowa Friday.
- The Flames fell to the Bulldogs back on Jan. 19. In that game, UIC was led offensively by Josie Filer, who scored a team-high 18 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three steals.
- This will be the programs' eighth meeting on the hardwood. Drake leads the all-time series, 6-1, and have won the last two meetings.
- The Bulldogs have gone 4-2 over its last six Missouri Valley Conference games.
FALLING TO THE PANTHERS
- The Flames fell to Northern Iowa (16-6, 11-2), 55-47, Friday night at Credit Union 1 Arena.
- UIC was offensively led by Jaida McCloud. She scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Tiana Jackson scored a season-high 10 points.
- The lead changed 12 times throughout the contest and the game was tied at 39 after three quarters.
- The Panthers secured the win when they outscored the Flames 16-8 in the fourth.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
- The Flames are tied for sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
- There is currently a four-way tie for sixth place in the MVC. Evansville, Southern Illinois and Indiana State are the three programs tied with UIC.
JOSIE AND JAIDA'S JOURNEY TO 1,000 POINTS
- After her five-point performance against UNI, Josie Filer is now 65 points away from 1,000 points in her collegiate career.
- Filer is the leading scorer for the Flames this season, averaging 12.4 points per game.
- Jaida McCloud is also getting close to the scoring milestone. Following her third double-digit scoring game in a row, the junior is 96 points away from 1,000 career points.
Play4Kay
- Sunday's contest is the Play4Kay game. Proceeds of the game will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, whose mission is to provide support to all women battling cancer.
- The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is named after legendary N.C. State head coach Kay Yow. Since its inception in 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded $8.18 million to fund women's cancer research and programs that provide access to quality cancer healthcare for underserved women.
- UIC will be honoring cancer fighters, survivors and their families throughout the game.
- Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink. UIC players and coaches will be wearing pink to show support.
