Men's Tennis Splits Pair of Weekend Matches

Flames Earn Fourth Win of Season Saturday at Northern Kentucky

DAYTON, OHIO – The UIC men's tennis team rounded out a pair of weekend matches Sunday, taking on Dayton Sunday morning after competing against Northern Kentucky Saturday evening.
 
NORTHERN KENTUCKY – SATURDAY
 
  • Artem Ierlemov and Pelle Strandberg earned the lone victory in doubles for the Flames, beating NKU's Santiago Casamayor and Emilio Bravo in the number two slot.
  • Aleksa Bucan kicked things off for the Flames in singles play, tying the match overall with a two-set victory 7-6, 6-3.
  • Gustavo Schwebel gutted out a three-set victory in the number five spot to re-tie the match at 2-2, coming back to win the final set 6-3 after losing a second set tie-break.
  • Jai Vallurupalli sealed the UIC victory in the match, also earning a gutsy victory after losing a second set tie-break.
 
DAYTON – SUNDAY
 
  • The Flames stopped in Dayton on the way back to Chicago Sunday, and again dropped the doubles point against the Flyers.
  • The top three singles matches all went into three sets, with Miroslav Cvjetan going all the way to a tie-break in the third set before falling to Dayton's Eric Perkowski.
  • Bucan also took his match to three sets, including winning the first set 6-2.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Flames will return to action on Saturday, as they will be in South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame. The Flames and Fighting Irish have matched up once in the past, last season on Feb. 27, when Notre Dame took down UIC by a 5-0 final score.
