SOUTH BEND, IND. – The UIC men's tennis team played its opening match of a two-match weekend on Saturday, with a visit to nearby powerhouse Notre Dame. The Flames were defeated by the Fighting Irish by a final match score of 4-0.
 
DOUBLES

• Miroslav Cvjetan and Gustavo Schwebel earned three points in the number one doubles slot, but fell 6-3.
• Pelle Strandberg and Artem Iermolov met the same fate in the number two spot, earning the Fighting Irish the doubles point.

 
SINGLES

• After Aleksa Bucan and Cvjetan dropped their singles matches at the one and four spots, respectively, Jai Vallurupalli played a close two set match, falling 6-3, 6-1.
• Gustavo Schwebel won the only set for UIC Saturday, with his match going unfinished after winning 7-6, with a tie-break to the tune of 7-4.
• Pelle Strandberg held a 5-1 lead in the second set when the match was decided as a Notre Dame victory.

 
The Flames will return to action Sunday, as they travel to Milwaukee to take on Cardinal Stritch in a neutral-site match.
