Softball Set to Compete in Fresno State Kickoff Classic Beginning Thursday

The Flames return to compete in Fresno for the first time since 2020

FRESNO, CALIF. – The UIC softball team (0-3) find themselves on the West Coast this weekend to compete in Fresno State's Kickoff Classic beginning Thursday evening. 

This will be the Flames first time back at Fresno State since they competed back in Fresno State's Invitational in 2020.

FRESNO STATE
  • This will be the third time that the Flames and Bulldogs are set to meet on the diamond.
  • Fresno State leads the overall series, 2-0, beating the Flames 1-0 and 6-3 at their Invitational three years ago.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT tonight and will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. This will be the only game available to be streamed for the entire tournament.
  • Junior Keahilele Mattson leads the Bulldogs in hits (8) and walks (8) in the first five games.
  • Freshman Serayah Neiss has started three of the five games this season for Fresno State. In 11 innings pitch, Neiss has struck out 10 with four earned runs allowed.
IOWA STATE
  • UIC opens Friday in a redemption game against Iowa State with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT.
  • This is the first time these teams have met since Iowa State knocked out UIC in the 2021 NCAA Regional Tournament, 4-0.
  • The overall series between these programs is tied 2-2.
  • Senior Mikayla Ramos leads the team in hits (5) for the Cyclones.
  • Junior Saya Swain has struck out 18 batters in her three appearances in the circle so far this season for the Cyclones.
SEATTLE
  • UIC completes their Saturday competing against Seattle (3-2) with a scheduled first pitch for 3 p.m.
  • This will just be the second time these programs are set to compete on the diamond, and the first time since 2009.
  • Seattle edged out UIC in that game, competing at the Loyola Marymount Invitational back on Feb. 13, 2009, 2-1.
  • Graduate Transfer Jocelynn De La Cruz leads the RedHawks in the batter's box with seven RBIs.
  • Senior Stefanie Madrigal has a team-leading 10 strikeouts in the circle this season for Seattle.
IDAHO STATE
  • The Flames time in Fresno ends Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon against Idaho State. 
  • These programs haven't competed against one another since 2015.
  • Idaho State currently holds a 2-1 overall series lead on UIC.
  • The Flames lone win against the Bengals came back on Feb. 24, 2012, in the aTEN Construction Tournament, 5-2.
  • Idaho State is led offensively by Alyssa Yee. The freshman outfielder has batted .533 in the first five games and has a team-leading two homeruns.
  • Junior Jordan Schuring has been strong in the circle for the Bengals, already having thrown 12.2 innings, striking out five and only allowing two earned runs.
