IOWA CITY, IOWA - The UIC women's swimming & diving team completed its first two days of competition at the 2023 Missouri Valley Swimming & Diving Championship. Through Thursday's events, UIC is fourth in the team standings with 326.50 points. 

Wednesday

800 Freestyle Relay

• The Flames relay of Kallie Landrum, Madison Helmich, Victoria Thor and Lizzie Zeller placed fifth (7:24.65)

200 Medley Relay

• UIC's relay team of Bella Drake, Taira Juronis, Izabella Del Rosario and Poleena Kovalaske finished in seventh (1:42.01)

Thursday 

50 Freestyle

• Poleena Kovalaske set the  school record and finished third on the podium with a time of 23.06. She became the first Flame swimmer in school history to finish in the top three of an event at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship meet.

200 Freestyle Relay

• The Flames relay team of Bree Moericke, Izabella Del Rosario, Lizzie Zeller and Poleena Kovalaske broke the school record with a time of 1:33.03. The group placed fifth in the event.

200 IM

• Taira Juronis swam a time of 2:03.29, setting a new school record. She place seventh in the event. 

500 Freestyle

• Madison Helmick had a strong showing in the 500 freestyle, finishing in fifth (4:55.27)

1-Meter Diving 

• Ciara McCliment was UIC's top performer in the event, finishing in fifth place with a score of 250.08. Kerry-Leigh Morrison (226.35 points) and Abigail Hellinga (225.57 points) also performed well for the Flames.

The Flames resume competition Friday at 10:30 a.m. CT with prelims in the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and 3-Meter Diving. The finals start at 6 p.m. CT. Friday's finals events include the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 3-Meter Diving and 400 Medley Relay.
