Softball Drops Pair to Close Out Governors Classic Sunday

Flames fall to Austin Peay and Dayton to finish out the weekend.

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. – The UIC softball team (0-21) finished up the Governors Classic Sunday afternoon, falling to Austin Peay (9-8), 6-3 and Dayton (8-10), 2-0.

AUSTIN PEAY
  • After the rainout abruptly ended the game Saturday night, senior Carlee Jo Clark entered the circle for the Flames, stepping in for starting pitcher senior Christina Toniolo, who threw 4.1 innings.
  • Clark finished 1.2 innings of work, striking out two and only allowing one hit.
  •  After hitting a single to start off the game, redshirt senior Maica Ingles hit a single into the outfield. She finished the game batting 2-for-4 with her first multi-hit game of the season. Senior Jordyn Cebedo (2-for-3) also had her first multi-hit game of the season with base hits in the 4th and 7th innings.
  • Junior JoJo Santiago (1-for-2) and Alannah Cran (1-for-3) each had base hits in the later innings for the Flames.
DAYTON
  • Clark remained in the circle for the Flames heading into the next game at Dayton. She pitched 3.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out two batters.
  • Cran earned the Flames first hit of the game on a bunt in the bottom of the second to get on base. She is now batting .231 in the season, second highest for the Flames this season.
  • Junior Anna Walker singled to centerfield in the top of the third to earn her team-leading 14th hit of the season.
  • Clark (1-for-2) and sophomore Hailey Cowing (1-for-3) each had base hits throughout the game.
  • Toniolo came in for relief midway through the fourth inning for UIC, throwing 1.1 innings in the circle, only allowing two hits and striking out two Flyers. Junior Miranda Gomez finished the game in the circle for the Flames in the sixth inning, walking one and striking out two.
 
The Flames travel to Terre Haute, Ind. next weekend to begin Missouri Valley Conference play against Indiana State (8-11) beginning on Friday, March 17. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
