CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team closed out a brief, two-game homestand at Curtis Granderson Stadium Tuesday, as it hosted Milwaukee for a mid-week contest.
- The Flames jumped out to the early lead Tuesday, as Charlie Szykowny plated the game's first run, his seventh RBI, on a single that plated Rayth Petersen and gave UIC a 1-0 lead.
- Cole Conn played add-on in the Flames half of the second inning, tallying his second and third RBI of the season with a two-out double to score Bobby Grimes and Zane Zielinski.
- The Panthers would answer quickly in the top of the third inning against starter Ryan Karst, plating three runs on an RBI groundout and two separate RBI singles to tie the game at 3-3.
- UIC would answer with a run scored on a passed ball in the home half of the third inning to re-establish a 4-3 lead.
- Panthers' catcher Jack Thelen crushed a solo home run with one out in the top of the fourth to re-level the contest at 4-4.
- AJ Henkle kept the game tied in the top of the seventh, making a spectacular leaping catch to rob Milwaukee's Ty Olejnik of a solo home run at the right field wall.
- The Flames finally broke the tie in the eighth inning after three and a half scoreless innings, as pinch hitter Jackson Bessette came up big with a two-RBI single to put UIC up 6-4.
- Szykowny doubled the Flames' advantage just two batters later with a two-RBI single of his own, plating Cole Conn and Bessette to bring the score to 8-4.
- Tyler Ingram pitched the final three innings in relief, earning the win and surrendering just three hits and not allowing a run.
The Flames will hit the road this weekend, as they travel to SIUE for a three-game series against the Cougars. First pitch from Edwardsville, Ill. is set for 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday. Live stats are available for all three games of the series.
