Softball Set to Begin Series Against Indiana State Sunday Evening

The Flames and the Sycamores set to battle it out on the diamond for the first time since 2016.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The UIC softball team (0-21) is set to begin Missouri Valley Conference play Sunday evening when it begins a series against Indiana State (10-11) with first pitch scheduled at 5 p.m.

The series will conclude Monday with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. Game two will follow at 3:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
All games will be played on Eastern Daylight Time and are dependent on weather permitting.
 
MATCH UP BREAKDOWN
  • The Flames and the Sycamores have played seven times over the years. UIC currently leads in the series 4-3.
  • Back in Feb. 2016, both programs split games in the Total Control Sports Invitational in Rosemont, Illinois.
  • The Sycamores walked away the victors in the first game on Feb. 19, winning in extras, 3-2.
  • The Flames received retribution the next day in the invitational, with a 4-3 win.
  • Between 1993-95, the Flames held a three-game win streak over the Sycamores (5-2, 8-2, 7-0)
ANNA'S AWESOME START
  • New to the Flames this season, junior Anna Walker has been an integral part of UIC's offense this season.
  • She currently leads the team in batting average (.269) and total hits (14) for the Flames.
  • Walker also has crossed home plate eight different times this season and has a team-leading seven walks in the season.
COWING POWER
  •  Sophomore Hailey Cowing leads the team with five RBI's this season.
  • Back on Feb.16, in an extra inning bout against Fresno State, Cowing cleared the right field wall for the Flames lone home run of the season so far.
  • Cowing is tied for second in hits with nine hits in the season.
TONIOLO-ING THE RUBBER
  • Senior Christina Toniolo has 14 appearances so far in the circle for the Flames, 10 of those appearances having been starts.
  • Toniolo has struck out 33 batters this season in more than 58 innings pitched.
  • Most notable performance was back on Mar. 3 when Toniolo held the reigning Women's College World Series Champions #1 Oklahoma in four innings pitched, striking out two and allowing one run.
