Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Indiana State Monday Afternoon

Big hitting days from junior Emma Crowley and redshirt senior Maica Ingles.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—The UIC softball team (0-24, 0-3 MVC) fell to Indiana State (13-11, 3-0 MVC) in a doubleheader Monday afternoon, 9-1 and 12-2.
GAME ONE
  • Redshirt senior Maica Ingles started the game off with a single to center field, followed by stealing second base. That was her fourth stolen base of the season, leading the team.
  • Ingles later scored on a single to right field from senior Alannah Cran. That was her second RBI in the season.
  • The Flames finished the game with six hits collectively from Ingles (2-for-3), Cran (1-for-2), sophomore Hailey Cowing (1-for-3), Jojo Santiago (1-for-3), and junior Emma Crowley (1-for-1).
  • Senior Christina Toniolo pitched 3.1 innings in the circle, striking out three batters and only walking two.
  • Finishing the game in the circle was junior Miranda Gomez, who in her relief appearance allowed one hit to the three batters she faced, getting the Flames out of the bottom of the fourth.
GAME TWO
  • Cran began the top of the fourth with a bunt single then advanced into scoring position behind the single of pinch-hitting senior Carlee Jo Clark.
  • A few batters later, senior Mary Jones also came into the game as a pinch hitter and scored Cran on an error from the Sycamore's shortstop.
  • Clark later scored in the inning behind a double into left center from Crowley before freshman Gianna Richy struck out to end the inning.
  • Clark started the game in the circle for UIC. She pitched 1.2 innings, only walking three batters.
  • Gomez had a second relief appearance of the day against the Sycamores. She threw 2.1 innings for the Flames, striking out one batter.
UIC remains on the road Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Evanston to take on Northwestern (13-8) at Sharon J. Drysdale Field at 3 p.m.
