Softball Falls in Sunday Afternoon Series Finale Against UNI

The Flames Now are 0-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference

CHICAGO—The UIC softball team (0-28, 0-6 MVC) finished up its series against UNI (17-9, 6-0 MVC) Sunday afternoon, falling to the Panthers, 7-0.
  • After the Flames held the Panthers to one hit in the top of the first, redshirt senior Maica Ingles started the bottom of the inning with a single to right field. Ingles now has had six hits over the last six games.
  • Strong relief pitching appearance from junior Miranda Gomez, who came in after senior Christina Toniolo's 2.0 inning start to the game. Gomez faced six batters and allowed no hits and no walks in her 16th appearance of the season.
  • Senior Jordyn Cebedo earned her second hit of the series when she singled to centerfield to begin the bottom of the fifth inning. She finished the game going 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • In the very next inning, senior Carlee Jo Clark got on base with a single. She now leads the team in batting with a .245 average.
  • After starting the game in the circle for the Flames, Toniolo pitched the remaining 2.1 innings after coming in to relieve Clark. She finished the day logging in 4.2 innings of work, allowing just four hits and only walking two batters.
The Flames return on the road and back into nonconference play on Wednesday, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame (18-8). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
