Softball Fall to Ranked Opponents in Day Two of OU Tournament

The Flames drop games to #17 Kentucky and #1 Oklahoma Saturday.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NORMAN, OKLA. – The UIC women's softball team (0-16) came up short in both of its games Saturday, falling to #17 Kentucky (11-5-1), 7-1 in the first game and to #1 Oklahoma (17-1), 9-0 in the second game.
 
#17 KENTUCKY
  • The Flames began the bottom of the fourth when junior Anna Walker walked followed by a double from Carlee Jo Clark to right field landed UIC with two runners in scoring position.
  • Walker scored in the very next at bat when sophomore Hailey Cowing landed a sacrifice bunt to give the Flames their first run of the game.
  • Senior Christina Toniolo threw five innings in the circle for UIC. She struck out two and walked one in over 90 pitches.
  • In her 10th appearance of the season, junior Miranda Gomez completed two innings, only walking one of the 11 batters she faced.
#1 OKLAHOMA
  • Walker began the game for UIC in the top of the first with a single passed the shortstop. Walker leads the team this season in hits now with 11.
  • Junior Dee Dee Caskey earned her third hit of the season when she singled into right field midway through the fifth inning.
  • After Jo Clark faced a few batters in a relief appearance, Toniolo pitched the remainder of the game, pitching three innings, walking three batters, and striking out one.
UIC's time will conclude at the OU Tournament Sunday afternoon with a rematch against the Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for 11:32 a.m. CT.
