Baseball Looks to Build on Positive Momentum This Week

Flames Take on Northwestern Before Hosting Missouri State This Weekend

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team is set to kick off a four-game week, as it travels to Northwestern for a Tuesday contest before returning to Curtis Granderson Stadium to host Missouri State for a three-game series beginning Friday evening.
 
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
  • The UIC athletics department is excited to announce a weekend full of exciting promotions at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
  • Friday night's game will serve as UIC baseball Alumni Day, where several notable program alumni will be recognized throughout the game.
  • Saturday's 2:00 p.m. first pitch will serve as the first Bark in the Park game, as all dogs in attendance will receive a UIC branded dog bandana, as well as have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Sparky. For more information regarding Bark in the Park, please read this release.
  • Sunday's game will feature a giveaway for Youth Sports Day, as well as an opportunity to get autographs from your favorite Flames players after the game. The game will also be the second "Service Sunday" game of the season.
 
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
  • The Wildcats enter the week with a 5-21 overall record this year. Most recently, Northwestern hosted Illinois for a three-game series, a series in which the Wildcats took two out of three from the Illini.
  • Northwestern boasts a 3-3 record in Big Ten play this year after opening conference play with a 1-2 record against Purdue. The last time the Flames and Wildcats met this season, UIC defeated Northwestern 10-6 on March 7 at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
  • Stephen Hrustitch leads the way offensively for Northwestern, as he leads the team with a .338 batting average and ranks second on the team in RBI with 16.
 
SCOUTING MISSOURI STATE
  • The Bears enter the week with a 16-14 overall record, and a 5-4 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. Prior to their trip to Chicago, Missouri State will host in-state rival Missouri at Hammons Field on Tuesday.
  • The Flames and Bears will meet for the first time in each program's history this weekend, with the Flames looking to win their second consecutive Missouri Valley series.
  • Missouri State has won five of its last six conference games, including a three-game sweep of Bradley last weekend.
  • Spencer Nivens ranks in the top five in the Missouri Valley in several offensive categories for the Bears, including hits (43) and slugging percentage (.683).
 
FLAMES FACTS
  • UIC made history yet again this past weekend, as it won the rubber match of its series at Murray State, earning its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference series victory.
  • The Flames now own a 13-14 overall record, with a 3-6 mark in conference play which ranks them in a tie for seventh with Bradley.
  • The pitching staff for UIC is getting healthy at the right time, including the return of Kade Lancour over the weekend. Jeff Zack and Brandon Bak also earned victories for the Flames this weekend, as the whole staff averaged just under three runs surrendered per game.
  • Breck Nowik and Carson Roberts both hit over .500 last week, with the two combining for 15 hits and seven RBI.
 
All four games this week can be heard on the Flames Network free of charge. Tuesday night's contest can also be seen live on B1G+ for a subscription fee. This weekend's series against Missouri State will be broadcast live on ESPN+ Friday and Sunday, with Saturday afternoon's game to be shown on ESPN3.
