CHICAGO – A Jesus De Vicente goal in the 65th minute was the bright spot for the UIC men's soccer program Saturday, as the Flames fell to Green Bay 4-1 in their spring season finale.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"This was a disappointing way to end our spring," said head coach Sean Phillips. "Our previous four games had bright spots in them, but this afternoon our team was off. Green Bay deserves credit for bringing a great mentality and team spirit. They made it difficult for us to find a rhythm, they took advantage of their chances and made it challenging for us to do what we wanted to do."

FIRST HALF
  • The Flames had an early opportunity as De Vicente attempted a free kick in the fourth minute of action. However, Green Bay's goalkeeper was able to make the save to keep the Flames off the board.
  • The Phoenix kept control for the majority of the first 30 minutes of play, including attempting multiple corner kicks. In the 31st minute, Diego Gutierrez's strong defensive effort inside the box prevented Green Bay from scoring the game's first goal of the afternoon.
  • In the 38th minute, the Phoenix were on the offensive again. However, UIC goalkeeper Isaac Carvajal was able to make a sliding stop on a Green Bay attempt with Gutierrez clearing the ball away after it rebounded off the crossbar.
  • Green Bay got on the board at the '40 mark, putting away the second chance opportunity after a Carvajal save.
  • The Flames went into halftime trailing 1-0.
SECOND HALF
  • Seven minutes into the second half, Green Bay scored its second goal of the afternoon off a fast break.
  • At the 60' mark, the Phoenix found the back of the net again, scoring off a shot from inside the 18.
  • In the 65th minute, De Vicente ripped a shot off the free kick to the back corner of the net for UIC's lone goal of the afternoon.
  • The Flames had additional chances at the 74', 75', 81' and 82' marks, but all four attempts either missed the net or were stopped by the Phoenix goalkeeper.
  • The Phoenix added its final goal of the game in the 83rd minute off a penalty kick attempt.
Saturday's contest concluded UIC's spring season. The Flames will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2023 regular season.
