Softball Set to Battle Valparaiso in One-Game Series Tuesday

Both Teams Set to Battle it Out on the Diamond for the First Time Since 2019

 CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (0-31, 0-9 MVC) have a midweek match-up against Valparaiso (3-25, 0-9 MVC) at Flames Field Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and available to stream on ESPN+ and listen to on the Flames Network. Larry Larson and Kacy Standohar will be on the call for the game.

MATCH UP BREAKDOWN
  • This will be the first time since 2019 that the Flames and the Beacons are set to compete on the diamond. Valparaiso won in the last meeting on April 3 of that year, 9-6.
  • This will be the 87th game against one another with UIC leading the series, 66-20.
  • UIC has won eight of the last 10 meetings dating back to 2015.
  • Junior Regi Hecker leads all Beacon hitters with a .268 batting average. She is second on the team in hits (19) and third in slugging percentage (.324%).
  • Senior Easton Seib has pitched the most this season for Valparaiso. She has thrown 79.0 innings in the circle and struck out 36 batters.
GOMEZ IN THE CIRCLE
  • In the series against Illinois State, junior Miranda Gomez had a strong showing in the circle, pitching in the first two games of the series.
  • On Saturday, Gomez pitched 3.1 innings, walking two batters, and striking out one.
  • Then in Game One of the doubleheader on Sunday, Gomez pitch 5.2 inning and struck out a season-high five batters.
  • Gomez finished the weekend with a 3.00 ERA with the most innings pitched (9.0) for UIC.
LET'S GO CARLEE JO!
  • Senior Carlee Jo Clark had a great weekend at the plate against Illinois State, batting .625 and had a team-leading five hits.
  • One of those hits came in Game Two of the doubleheader on Sunday, when she crushed the ball over left-center for her second homerun of the season. She now co-leads the team in homeruns this season with sophomore Hailey Cowing.
  • Clark leads the team with a .295 batting average and tied for second in hits with 18.
MAICA MAKIN' NOISE
  • With four hits spanning over the three-game series, redshirt senior Maica Ingles has gotten on base in eight of the last nine games.
  • She batted .400 against the Redbirds with one RBI and scoring once throughout the series.
  • Ingles leads the Flames in hits with 19 so far this season.
