Toniolo Throws a Complete Game in Extra Innings Thriller

Flames Falter in Game One Against Belmont, 2-0

CHICAGO – The UIC softball team went down to the wire against Belmont Wednesday night, falling in nine innings, 2-0.
  • Senior Christina Toniolo entered the circle for the Flames for her 17th start of the season against the Bruins.
  • After only allowing one hit to begin the game, Toniolo kept the Bruins at bay. She didn't allow another hit until the eighth inning.
  • She struck out seven batters throughout the game, a new season-high for the hurler.
  • Toniolo's nine innings pitched against Belmont ties a career-high. She last reached this mark back on Mar. 5, 2022 against Florida A&M.
  • UIC's lone hit came off the bat of sophomore Hailey Cowing, landing a single past the second baseman. She now has 17 hits in the season and the fourth-best batting average for the Flames at .224.
LOOKING AHEAD IN THE SERIES
  • Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. as the Flames aim to bounce back in their second game against the Bruins.
  • Friday's game will be streamed on ESPN3. Terry Bonadonna and Kacy Standohar will be on the call.
  • Saturday's noon game will begin with a Dragon Egg Hunt during pregame. Fans will be encouraged into partaking on the search for some of Sparky's Eggs to win some prizes!
  • Saturday's game will set to be streamed on ESPN+.

  • In collaboration with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, members of the UIC softball program are raising money in the fight against pediatric brain tumors and childhood cancer.
  • This be an ongoing fundraiser throughout the month of April and will culminate on April 28 when UIC hosts Bradley to begin a three-game series.
