MURRAY, Ky. – The UIC baseball team closed out its series against Murray State Sunday afternoon, as the Flames and Racers both looked to earn the series victory with a win.
Â
- For the second straight day, the Flames opened the scoring on Sunday in the first inning. Taking advantage of a passed ball and a wild pitch, UIC quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Murray State could pick up a bat.
- Ryan Nagelbach added to the Flames' lead in the top of the third, as a sacrifice fly to left field brought home Carson Roberts to put the Flames ahead 3-0.
- After a Murray State run on a groundout in the bottom of the third inning, UIC would answer with three runs of its own in the visiting half of the sixth inning, two of which on the strength of a two out, two-RBI single from Roberts.
- Graduate student Jeff Zack left the game after the fifth inning, leaving himself in line for his second victory of the season, allowing just one run on three Murray State hits.
- Roberts added his third RBI of the game in the top of the eighth, as his sacrifice fly brought the score to 7-1 in favor of the Flames.
- The Flames would add five runs to their advantage in the top of the ninth and would go on to win by a final score of 12-1.
