CHICAGO (August 29, 2023) – The UIC women's basketball team released a competitive 2023-24 non-conference schedule Tuesday, highlighted by matchups against some of the preeminent mid-major programs in the Midwest and a December trip to the West Palm Beach Classic.
"We are very excited about this year's non-conference schedule," said second-year head coach
Ashleen Bracey. "Last year, in my first season, our primary focus was to put together a schedule that gave us an opportunity to be competitive in every game. With seven returning players from the previous season and the addition of eight new impactful athletes to our roster, our approach to scheduling has evolved a bit, this year we have really looked to put together a schedule that prepares us to compete at a higher level in the MVC and puts us in position to compete in postseason play. We were very intentional about scheduling the Chicagoland area and playing opponents that are in close proximity so our fans could travel."
The Flames will start the season Oct. 30 with a home exhibition contest against Wisconsin-Parkside at Credit Union 1 Arena. UIC will open the 2023-24 regular season a week later on Nov. 6 with a road matchup at rival Loyola. The two teams crossed paths last season, as the Flames came away with a 45-36 victory. The Flames currently lead the all-time series 21-11.
Later in the week, the Flames will travel up the road to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern (Nov. 9). In last season's matchup against the Wildcats, UIC came up just short, narrowly falling to its Big Ten Conference foe, 66-62. The Flames will wrap up their three-game road trip with a contest at Milwaukee (Nov. 12).
UIC's regular season home opener will take place on Nov. 17, as the Flames welcome Southeast Missouri State to Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames will finish their weekend homestand as they host IUPUI on Nov. 19. Last year, UIC defeated IUPUI 52-50, earning the program's first-ever win against the Jaguars.
UIC will then head on the road for its second three-game road trip of the season as the Flames travel to Saint Louis (Nov. 26), Omaha (Dec. 1) and Green Bay (Dec. 13). UIC last played the Billikens and Mavericks in 2021, and the Phoenix in 2022.
The Flames will return to Credit Union 1 Arena Dec. 15 to face Chicago State in their final non-conference home game of the regular season. UIC closes out its non-conference slate at the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Classic (Dec. 20-21). The Flames will take on UTEP (Dec. 20) and Arkansas (Dec. 21), marking the first time Flames will face either the Miners or the Razorbacks on the hardwood. Both programs participated in the WNIT last season. The field for the two-day tournament also includes Baylor, California, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Providence, San Diego State and South Florida.
Season tickets for UIC women's basketball are now available for purchase. Additional details on the 2023-24 UIC women's basketball schedule, including conference games, remaining tip times and broadcast coverage will be announced later this fall.
