Women’s Soccer Back Home for Midweek Match Against Marquette

The Flames Face the Golden Eagles Thursday at Flames Field

CHICAGO (Aug. 30, 2023) –Following two road matches, the UIC women's soccer team is returning home to Flames Field to host Marquette Thursday evening.

The Flames (0-2-1) are back in Chicago for this first time since their season-opening draw against Toledo on Aug. 21. UIC has lost two in a row, dropping 1-0 contests against Wisconsin and Miami (OH).

Junior midfielder Yulexi Diaz leads the Flames with four shots and two shots on goal through the first three games of the 2023 season. The Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team selection is currently second on the team in minutes played (249) and has started all three matches this season.

In goal, junior Sara Sanabria has started the last two games, making eight saves across both contests. The Wentzville, Missouri native has already surpassed her playing time in 2022 through UIC's first three matches.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE

Marquette enters Thursday's contest with 1-2-1 record. Junior defender Caroline Cline leads the Golden Eagles in goals (two) and points (four) through their first four matches. Marquette's played two goalkeepers so far this season, with senior Mikki Easter starting three of the team's four matches. Easter's had 17 saves through the early part of the 2023 season.

This will be the third year in a row the two programs have met on the pitch and the third meeting overall. Marquette currently leads the overall series 0-1-1. Last season the Flames and Golden Eagles tied 1-1 in the match played in Milwaukee.

MATCH INFORMATION

Thursday's contest will take place at Flames Field, starting at 6 p.m. The match can be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on the Flames' website.

During the match against Marquette there will be a Soccer Scarf Giveaway. The Flames' next home contest will be on Sunday, Sept. 10, which is Pups at the Pitch, with UIC pet bandanas and treats given to all dogs in attendance.
