ST. LOUIS (Sept. 19, 2023) – The Missouri Valley Conference released its Men's Soccer Weekly Awards on Tuesday, and for the first time this season, Oren Asher (Hetzliya, Israel/Rutgers) was named The Valley's Defensive Player of the Week.
 
"Oren has been solid in net for us all season," commented head coach Sean Phillips. "He has come in as a grad transfer and made an immediate impact, and his saves against Belmont proved to be crucial for us earning a big road win."
 
The graduate transfer goalkeeper earned his third clean sheet of the season in UIC's Sept. 16 2-0 victory over Belmont, the Flames' first conference match of the season. Asher turned aside six Bruins shots on goal, running his total to 26 saves on the year.
 
Asher ranks second in the Missouri Valley Conference in shutouts with three, and fifth in the conference in goals against average at 1.14.
