Women’s Soccer Gets Ready for Clash Against Northern Iowa

The Flames enter the match with a 1-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference play

CHICAGO (Sept. 20, 2023) – The UIC women's soccer team (2-4-2, 1-0 MVC) is preparing for its second Missouri Valley Conference match of the season as the Flames will travel to Northern Iowa for a Thursday afternoon road contest.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UIC is coming off an impressive start to league play. The Flames' opening match in the Valley resulted in a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois. After a red card was issued in the first half, UIC played with only ten players for the rest of the contest. Sophomore midfielder Makenna Maloy (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) emerged as one of the Flames' leading goal scorers after netting the game-winning goal in the second half to secure UIC's first conference win of the season.

SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA
Northern Iowa boasts a 7-1-1 record in 2023, but is coming off its first loss of the season, a 2-1 defeat against Drake Thursday. UNI's sophomore defender Macy Smith has six goals this season and is currently tied for fifth place on the Panthers' single season scoring list.

Thursday's contest will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs, with UIC holding a 0-1-3 record against the Panthers. The last time the two teams squared off on the pitch, Northern Iowa came away victorious following a penalty shootout in the opening round of the 2022 MVC Championship.

Thursday's matchup is at the UNI Soccer Stadium in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Fans can stream the 3 p.m. contest on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on the Flames' website.
