Women’s Soccer Takes on Drake During Flames Fest Weekend

The team will honor seniors and alumni on Sunday

CHICAGO (Sept. 23, 2023)The UIC women's soccer team (2-5-2, 1-1 MVC) will host Drake (6-2-2) Sunday as part of UIC's Flames Fest Weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
The Flames took on Northern Iowa Thursday, resulting in a hard-fought 1-0 loss. Makenna Maloy (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and Emmy Higgins (Evansville, Ind./Castle) played pivotal roles in creating scoring opportunities for the Flames. However, UIC failed to convert any of these chances into goals.

Earlier this week, Higgins was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week. The midfielder has accumulated a total of 661 minutes this season, which is the fourth most on the team. Following closely behind her is fellow freshman Julia Thomson (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy), who has played 653 minutes this season.

SCOUTING DRAKE
Drake (6-2-2) has started conference play with a 2-0 record. The Bulldogs secured victories against Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois, two teams UIC has also faced in the early portion of conference action. Senior Emma Nagel leads her team in nearly every statistical category, including minutes played (679) and points (12).

The two teams have clashed three times previously, with their first matchup taking place in 2016. UIC trails the all-time series 2-1.

MATCH INFORMATION
Sunday's contest is set for 1 p.m. at Flames Field. Fans can stream the match on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on the Flames' website.

The team will honor four seniors and alumni Sunday as part of its Senior Day and Alumni Day festivities. Additionally, it's "Pups at the Pitch," where all dogs in attendance will receive a complimentary UIC-branded bandana and dog treats.

Sunday's matchup is also a part of Flames Fest, presented by Xfinity. This three-day event runs from Friday through Sunday and features the induction ceremony for the UIC Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023 on Saturday, along with home matches for women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball.
