Men’s Tennis Narrowly Defeated by Bellarmine

Flames win the doubles point, but drop contest to the Knights 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2024) – After winning its first doubles point of the season, the UIC men's tennis program fell in a hard-fought contest to Bellarmine 4-3 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex. With the loss the Flames move to 0-2 on the season. COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH JOVAN PARLIC
 
"Even though it wasn't the result we wanted, today's competition was a great dual match and I'm proud of the entire team. We are looking forward to getting back out on the practice courts this week and are eager to play in front of the home crowd next Sunday against North Dakota."
 
MATCH RECAP
  • Behind a dominant 6-1 victory by the No. 3 doubles pair of Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) and a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles by Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) and Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira), the Flames won their first doubles point of the season against the Knights.
  • At No. 2 singles, Bucan blanked his opponent in the first set 6-0, before winning 6-4 in the second set to clinch the two-set victory.
  • Bottino followed up his win at No. 2 doubles with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, defeating his opponent 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.
  • The Knights won four of six singles competitions to secure the match victory. Three of Friday's six singles matches went three sets.
