Flames See Six-Game Unbeaten Streak End at Missouri State

UIC drops its first game in seven MVC outings despite goals from Ferris and Weinberg

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Oct. 13, 2024) — Redshirt junior defender Madison Ferris (Bellevue, Wash./The Bush School) and fifth-year senior forward Elizabeth Weinberg (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township/Carroll University) both scored for UIC, but it wasn't enough as the Flames fell at Missouri Valley Conference leader Missouri State, 5-2 on a windy Sunday afternoon at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Mo. Finishing a stretch of three games in five days with its longest Valley road trip of the season, UIC (5-8-2, 4-1-2) saw its school record-tying six-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Senior midfielder Natalie Montini (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) collected the assist on Weinberg's second-half score. Junior forward/midfielder Riley Collett (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and classmate Hannah Gryzik (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) both had a team-high two shots for the Flames, with both of Collett's tries ending up on goal.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"We started very slowly and against good teams, they will punish you and that's what happened," said UIC head coach David Nikolic. "We had a week that challenged our bodies and minds and ultimately we ran out of gas today. We are disappointed and know that there is better in us. I am confident that they will show it again on Thursday. I'm also happy with the goals we scored from Addy (Ferris) and Liz (Weinberg), as it showed our continued willingness to fight."
