DES MOINES, Iowa (Oct. 26, 2024) – The UIC men's soccer team (6-8, 2-4 MVC) was back on the road Saturday night, as the Flames battled another top-three Missouri Valley Conference opponent in Drake (8-3-3, 4-0-2 MVC).
After a few strong early saves from
Oren Asher (Hetzliya, Israel/Rutgers), the Bulldogs broke through on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a headed cross. The Flames appeared to have tied the match early in the second half, but
Bart Muns (Amsterdam, Netherlands) was ruled to be offside after scoring on a volleyed cross. Both teams were shown red cards in the second half, and the last 15 minutes were played with 10 men each side. The Flames were unable to net the match-tying goal in the final few minutes, dropping the Saturday night contest by a 1-0 final score.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH SEAN PHILLIPS
"Give credit to Drake tonight," commented head coach
Sean Phillips. "They made the necessary plays when they needed them. We felt we created enough chances to earn a draw or win, but we weren't good enough in the final third. We are looking forward to an opportunity to right the ship against Bradley on Friday."
