CHICAGO (Oct. 3, 2024) — The UIC women's soccer team (3-7-2, 2-0-2 MVC) peppered the Southern Illinois goal throughout Thursday's Missouri Valley Conference contest, but the Flames couldn't quite discover the game-winning combination, settling for a 0-0 draw with the Salukis at Flames Field. The UIC defense was outstanding all night, holding SIU (5-2-5, 1-0-3) without a shot on goal — and just one total shot over the final 52-plus minutes — en route to the Flames' third clean sheet in four Valley games this season.
Junior forward
Sophia Jaime (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) fired a career high-tying seven shots (four on goal) for UIC, while sophomore forward
Camryn Ries (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had one of the Flames' best scoring chances in the 42nd minute when her shot from 12 yards out was cleared off the line by a Southern Illinois defender. Graduate student goalkeeper
Francesca Faraci (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South/Florida) did not need to make a save in recording her second consecutive shutout.Â

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Flames collect their third shutout in four MVC games this season, having allowed just one goal in conference play (on a Murray State penalty kick).
- In those four conference games to date, UIC has trailed for only 5:36, the time it took the Flames to find the equalizer after the MSU penalty on Sept. 26.
- Faraci has not allowed a goal within the run of play in her last 372:09 (and just one goal total - the MSU PK), dating back to UIC's Sept. 12 game against Kansas City.Â
- Jaime tied her career high with seven shots, having also done so on Oct. 12, 2023, against Belmont, and in the 2024 season opener on Aug. 15 against Chicago State.
UP NEXT
UIC continues its three-game MVC homestand next Tuesday, Oct. 8 with a 7 p.m. (CT) contest against Indiana State at Flames Field. The rescheduled game, which was postponed on its original Sept. 22 date because of inclement weather, will not be televised on ESPN+ due to a broadcast conflict with the UIC volleyball match at Credit Union 1 Arena, although
live stats will be available.
