Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Flames Stretch Unbeaten Streak to Five, Flattening Indiana State, 3-0

Three different UIC players scored their first goals of the season in the Flames' highest offensive output of 2024.

CHICAGO (Oct. 8, 2024) — Using a strong blend of efficient offense and rock-solid defense, the UIC women's soccer team (4-7-2, 3-0-2 MVC) stretched its unbeaten streak to five games and picked up its third consecutive shutout with a dominating 3-0 win over Indiana State (7-4-4, 2-2-2) in Missouri Valley Conference action Tuesday night at Flames Field.

Three different Flames opened their 2024 goal-scoring accounts on Tuesday, starting with redshirt junior defender Madison Ferris (Bellevue, Wash./The Bush School), who ripped a laser from the top of the box off the underside of the crossbar in the 25th minute. Junior midfielder Hannah Gryzik (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) doubled the UIC lead by poking home a pinpoint free kick service from senior defender Kaysey Castro (Fishers, Ind./Fishers/Bowling Green) in the 54th minute. Freshman midfielder Amina Marin (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) capped the night with her first collegiate goal in the 66th minute, making a timely back-post run to redirect a cross from junior forward Riley Collett (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac). That was more than enough for graduate student goalkeeper Francesca Faraci (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South/Florida), who recorded five saves to secure the clean sheet.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • UIC evens its all-time series with Indiana State at 2-2-1, including a 2-0-1 mark in three MVC matchups with the Sycamores (all shutouts).
  • The Flames scored a season-high three goals, their highest offensive output since Oct. 19, 2023 (a 4-1 win at Illinois State).
  • Gryzik's goal was the second of her career and first since her freshman season (Sept. 18, 2022, in a 2-0 win over Illinois State, also at Flames Field).
  • In five conference games this season, UIC has four shutouts, has outscored its opponents by a 7-1 margin and has trailed for only 5:36 (the time it took the Flames to find the equalizer after Murray State scored on a penalty kick on Sept. 26).
  • UIC has posted three consecutive shutouts for the first time since Oct. 6-13, 2022, when the Flames blanked Evansville (1-0), Drake (2-0) and Northern Iowa (0-0).
  • Faraci has not allowed a goal within the run of play in her last 462:09 (and just one goal total - the MSU PK), dating back to UIC's Sept. 12 game against Kansas City.
