Women's Tennis with a Dominant Weekend at the Missouri-Valley Conference Individual Championship

Flames Bring Home Four Individual Conference Titles

10/6/2024 9:00:00 PM

Chicago, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2024) The 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships wrapped up with an impressive performance from the UIC women's tennis team. Over the course of the three-day event, every member of the Flames reached the final day of competition.

Headlined by a Flame represented in four of the six singles flights and four Flames winning MVC individual conference titles—three in singles and one doubles pair—the UIC women's tennis team had plenty to celebrate this weekend. The four titles marked the program's first MVC individual tennis titles since the 2022-23 season, and most individual titles since joining the conference.

Senior Mayu Ushio (Yamaguchi, Japan/ Nodagakuen/ Miami Ohio) and freshmen Edit Cosmo (Malmö, Sweden) started things off for the Flames by winning the No. 1 Doubles individual title, securing a spot in the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Georgia. Keeping her big weekend going, Ushio also captured her second individual conference title in the No. 1 Singles draw. Camille Belberka (Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg, France/ St-Pierre/ Seward County Community College)  added to the Flames' success by claiming the No. 2 Singles title, while Nia Cooper (St. Louis, Mo./ Chicago State) won the No. 6 Singles draw, bringing the team's total to four individual conference titles for the day.
