Kalamazoo, Mich. (Oct. 11, 2024) The UIC women's tennis fall season has officially come to an end after a strong weekend at the Betsy Kuhle Challenge hosted by Western Michigan.
The event saw several Flames stepping into new roles due to the absence of
Mayu Ushio (Yamaguchi, Japan/Nodagakuen/Miami Ohio) and
Edit Cosmo (Malmö, Sweden), who were competing at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Georgia. In their absence, the rest of the team rose to the challenge, turning in several impressive victories against quality competition.
UIC had a strong weekend of doubles play, winning all three of their doubles matches on Sunday. On the singles side, senior
Camille Belberka (Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg, France/St-Pierre) capped her weekend with a hard-fought win, winning 6-7(4), 4-6. Junior
Anaïs Brion (Neuilly Sur Seine, France/National Center for Distance Education) finished off her fall season with a close win, securing a 4-6, 5-7 victory in her final match.
Quote from Head Coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson
"We enjoyed the opportunity to compete in a team format this weekend. It was incredible to play alongside each other and experience the adrenaline, energy, and momentum shifts of this type of competition. Our talent and drive is deep, and our players stepped up with two players absent and competed at a high level all weekend. It was awesome to see, and I am so excited to continue to work hard with this group."
